I'm Sam McVicker, a developer, designer, and electronic musician based in Brooklyn, NY. If you're catching this website now, you're early! It's very much a work-in-progress, and you'll see things trickle in as I get my projects into shareable shape.
I received my BFA from Bard College last year in architectural design, where my research focused on the development of novel theoretical and representational approaches to architectural epigraphy. There, I really zeroed in on my interest in how cognition has been and might be embodied and what the consequences of its varied embodiment are.
My development trajectory has, for that reason, increasingly pointed towards AI implementation. I've spent the last year and change not only working with LLMs like OpenAI's GPT, Anthropic's Claude, and Meta's Llama but also working with vector databases and embeddings more generally, focusing on simple implementations that effectively leverage these technologies' capabilities. I've been a front-end web developer for over five years, making from-scratch websites for myself, friends, and friends of friends.
I make music with MaxMSP, a wonderful node-based DSP program. This work ranges from instrument design and performance to algorithmic, microtonal, and noise music.
